Job Description

Cibus US LLC, a leading Agricultural Biotechnology company in San Diego CA, has an immediate opening for a Senior Research Specialist Position in Gene Editing Technology Development.  A Bachelors/Masters/PhD degree in Molecular Biology or related field with a minimum of 8 years experience with a Bachelors, or 5 years with a Masters or PhD with 0+ years experience is required.


The focus of the role will be to help build and lead Cibus’ RTDSTMgene editing platform in microorganisms. The successful candidate will be expected to design, perform and supervise a variety of projects to develop robust gene editing platforms in yeast, bacteria and other organisms.  The role will involve direct supervision of at least one Senior Research Associate, using an assortment of Microbiology and Molecular Biology technologies, and working across strain engineering and fermentation teams.

  • Demonstrated expertise using state of the art gene editing technologies such as oligo directed mutagenesis (ODM) or engineered nucleases and directed DNA breakers

  • Prior genome engineering experience in yeast, bacteria and/or other microorganisms is highly desired

  • Broad understanding of DNA repair and cell cycle control pathways

  • Strong interest and capabilities to build and lead a microbial gene editing program

  • Expertise with a range of Molecular Biology and Microbiological procedures for strain and DNA manipulation including PCR, qPCR and cloning.

  • Must be able to plan, execute, monitor and report on multiple projects, including tasks of those under their direct supervision.

  • A demonstrated ability to be independent, self-motivated, and enjoy working in a highly collaborative setting.

  • Able to develop innovative solutions to complex problems.

  • Effective communication through report writing and oral presentation to senior management.

  • Prior experience in an agriculture biotech or fermentation setting desired, but not essential.
