Annual salary: starting at Euros 39870 (at Step I), net of French income tax (before deduction of the employee share of private social insurances applicable at IARC, i.e. staff health and accident insurances and pension fund).

Job Description

IARC is currently recruiting an experienced bioinformatics professional to join its Molecular Mechanisms and Biomarkers Group (MMB):

Senior Research Assistant (Bioinformatics/Data Management & Analysis)

The MMB Group at IARC conducts studies aimed at better understanding mechanisms of carcinogenesis and at identifying biomarkers applicable in molecular epidemiology and cancer prevention.

Under the direct supervision of the Head of the MMB Group, within the Section of Mechanisms of Carcinogenesis (MCA), the incumbent provides computational and bioinformatic support to projects that investigate the relevant genomic and epigenomic alterations that underlie the mechanisms of cancer formation, as well as their potential utility in biomarker discovery and validation.

The incumbent works in close collaboration with Scientists in the Section, their external collaborators and with the broader bioinformatics community at IARC.

Requirements

- Candidates must have a university degree in bioinformatics, biostatistics, biomathematics, computer science or a closely related discipline.

- The successful candidate will have at least five years of professional experience including one year using scripting languages and R programming, preferably in a research environment and one year handling genome-wide sequence-based data.

- Ability to create clear, concise figures for publications and to work harmoniously as a member of a team with people of diverse educational and cultural backgrounds are also required.

- Knowledge of R (and other statistical packages) for statistical computing and data visualization and of one or more scripting or programming languages (e.g. Perl, Python, Ruby, C++ or Java etc.), preferably using the Unix/Linux environment is essential as is a good general understanding of molecular and cell biology.
