Position Description 
The Senior Manager - R&D Project Management is responsible for the effective management (organization, planning, execution, control and evaluation) of all aspects of pharmaceutical drug development projects. The Senior Manager - R&D Project Management will develop and manage the cross functional integrated project plan based on the overall project strategy, ensuring milestones, goals and budget and managed within agreed thresholds, and in accordance with applicable SOPs, development process and design control requirements. 

S/he will provide decision analysis expertise and tools to the project teams in strategic planning and operational execution. S/he will effectively collaborate with project governance boards, communicate project status to management and provide resolution options/recommendations for project issues. 
The Senior Manager - R&D Project Management is responsible for project execution and on time delivery of milestones, manages outside partners and alliances, and facilitates meetings. This incumbent will provide training and coaching of project teams on processes including product development process, project governance, development plans, Gantt charts, decision trees, project financials. S/he supports Project Management departmental improvement initiatives. 
Requirements 
A minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Life Sciences or Engineering discipline with 10 years' experience in pharmaceutical drug development, R&D environment or equivalent is required. An Advanced Degree, MS, PhD, and/or MBA with 8 years' experience in pharmaceutical drug development R&D environment or equivalent is preferred. Combined with either/or experience above a minimum of 5 years' experience in project management, leading multi-disciplinary project teams through the various phases of drug product development is required. Experience with co-development partners/arrangement and/or international experience is a plus. The successful candidate is required to be knowledgeable in pharmaceutical drug development and the interdependencies of individual development activities. Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for product registration on global basis required. Expertise in the application of project management software and in the use of the project/portfolio management systems required. Proven negotiation, issue resolution and team building skills required. Ability to proactively identify and act to resolve project issues, including those related to timing, resources and funding, to prevent delays in project milestones is required. The successful candidate is required to be an expert in facilitating team decision making and in the application of decision analysis methodologies and related tools preferred. Ability to represent project teams at senior management meetings required. Proven ability to motivate, manage, and develop a cross functional teams required. Excellent analytical and communication skills, both verbal and written required. This position is located in Irvine, CA and may require minimal travel 10%.
