Reports to: General Manager, EMEA

Function: Regional Marketing

Basic Function & Scope of Position:  Responsible for managing, developing and leading a team of marketing professionals responsible for all aspects of regional marketing for Illumina’s Life Sciences and Clinical product portfolios, in EMEA. As a key member of Illumina’s EMEA Commercial Leadership team, actively participate in shaping the continued evolution of the regional commercial organisation. This role is based in Cambridge, UK.

Tasks & Responsibilities:

  • Direct a team of over 30 marketing professionals, their success, development and continued growth

­     -Teams include: Marketing Communications & Events, Marketing Programs & Operations, District Technical Marketing Specialists & Market Development

  • Orchestrate and lead the annual strategic planning process to accomplish EMEA’s commercial goals

­     -Identify and implement necessary processes and infrastructure needed to support rapid revenue and market growth

­     -Collaboratively work with the field Sales & Support organisation, especially its senior management, to ensure accomplishment of the milestones in the annual revenue plan

­     -Provide information and guidance to the revenue planning, monthly forecast review and quarterly business reviews

  • Direct the development and execution of appropriate marketing strategies to drive continued growth of Illumina’s business in existing and new markets
  • Drive successful relationship with key customers to ensure successful early adoption of new products
  • Identify resources and priorities necessary to execute plans, track performance and make budget reallocation decision to maintain or improve the productivity of the marketing group and return on activities
  • Provide timely Voice of Customer/Region back into HQ Product Marketing and Market Development to ensure regional incorporating of positioning, messaging and specifications into global portfolios

­     -Identify areas of potential improvement of existing products and regional marketing opportunities

  • Ensure the development and implementation of regional marketing programs drive awareness, demand and customer engagement to support regional objectives

­     -Including demand channels (e.g. email, webinars, pipeline acceleration activities) to generate, nurture and accelerate lead pipeline.

  • Coordinate the planning and execution of product launches and marketing communications within the region, which may include: promotional activities, online/offline advertising, publications, webinars, seminars, e-commerce, social media, public relations, trade-ins, conferences, trade shows, etc

­     -Define and manage budgets and priorities for all the above activities

  • Partner with sales and support to meet revenue goals

­     -Assist teams in providing guidance for positioning and identifying target customers

­     -Provide technical marketing support to sales/support teams, training and tool development

­     -Proactively ensure that all members of the commercial team are trained on entire portfolio

  • Travel with sales and support team by attending conferences, trade shows, events, and customer visits

­     -Travel estimated at 30-60% within region and minimal quarterly travel to HQ in California.


Preferred Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree required, Masters or PhD a plus in genetics, molecular biology or equivalent. MBA strongly preferred

Preferred Experience Background:

  • Management of marketing teams in a similar commercial function
  • Demonstrable years of experience in marketing
  • Must have designed and lead the execution of multiple successful marketing programs/campaigns with clear vision, strategies, tactics and metrics
  • Experience within the genomics market is strongly preferred

­     -Understanding of leading genetics technologies and their application

­     -Strong knowledge of the relative strengths and weaknesses of Illumina’s major competitors

­     -Detailed information of technological developments and trends in the markets in which Illumina operates

­     -Ability to evaluate new market opportunities

  • Must possess exception communication skills (verbal, written, presentation)
  • Strong negotiation skills and ability to persuade
  • Must have demonstrated track record of successfully building and leading teams
  • Must have strong analytical skills and ability to tie detailed analysis to larger strategy
