Job Description

This Senior Manager, Systems Engineering is responsible for planning and execution of complex automation projects as well as people management. Direct reports include a mix of engineers and technicians supporting continuous improvement of the existing equipment and manufacturing of future automation tooling. The role includes cross functional interface with consumable engineering, quality, facilities, process, manufacturing and sustaining groups.


  • Responsible for engineering development of automation projects including system architecture, user requirements, test plan, execution and production release
  • Provides guidance and technical leadership to the engineering team to design and manufacture automated equipment
  • Creates detailed documentation including but not limited to design input requirements, specifications, design of experiments, acceptance test and validation protocols
  • Manages outside suppliers and contract manufacturers to design and build future automation lines
  • Champions change within the automation group, establishes good engineering /manufacturing disciplines and promotes new ways of thinking that will produce best in class automation equipment
  • Evaluates and recommends engineering changes to equipment or processes that will ensure maximum productivity
  • Maintains strict compliance with ISO13485 and other applicable Quality Management System standards
  • Leads recruiting; retention and development initiatives for the engineering personnel as well as succession planning. Sets and monitors goals for the team that are aligned with the department and corporate goals and encourages growth /development and career paths for team members
  • Develops and implements policies, standards and procedures for the engineering and technical work
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Mechanical engineering or related fields; or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level
  • 5+ years hands-on management experience in a high volume manufacturing environment
  • 10+ years of experience with automated equipment, robotics and precision mechanisms. Knowledge of PLC and machine control is a plus
  • Experience in ISO13485 setting and Quality regulations environment
  • Proven track record of successfully driving engineering projects to meet business objectives on time
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate clear project updates on a regular basis
  • The position requires a high degree of adaptability; creative decision-making; and technical problem-solving abilities
  • Must be proficient with the use of Solidworks and have a deep understanding of documentation practices
