Job Description

Genomic Health is seeking a highly talented and motivated Director or Senior Director of Program Management to lead the program management function for our product portfolio. This is an exciting opportunity to shape our R&D program and program management capabilities during a time of growth for our company. This individual will manage a team of Program Managers across our portfolio from discovery and development of new products to established franchises. This leadership role requires an individual with industry experience in product system development and commercialization, management experience to build and lead the Program Management team and a collaborative style to build and maintain strong cross-functional partnerships across the organization. This individual will lead the development of program management best practices within the team and may provide hands on program management for one program.


A strong candidate will have a track record of successfully implementing program management discipline within an R&D organization, ideally for the development of products for a regulated environment, and of developing strong teams and collaborations. This role requires excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, 7+ years of experience in the management of complex product development programs, and strong leadership skills of both matrixed teams and direct reports.

  • Refine Genomic Health’s Program Management vision and team responsibilities; develop, mentor and hire top Program Management talent
  • Influence leadership on best practices and resources for effective project management
  • Assign and monitor work of program management staff, providing technical support and direction
  • Adapt and implement a New Product Introduction (NPI) process to optimize schedule, effectiveness of resources and return on investment
  • Establish a measurement and reporting framework to review progress with key stakeholders
  • Use appropriate project management tools, communication plans and risk management techniques to create rigor in project planning and execution
  • Lead the continuous development of the Program Management culture; work with people in such a manner as to build high morale and group commitment to goals and objectives
  • Provide ongoing leadership to direct reports; ensuring functional progress to achieve or exceed goals, objectives and other targets
  • Develop and manage the team budget
  • Champion the function and influence other leaders across GHI
  • Additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Strong people management skills with proven ability and enthusiasm to lead, motivate, inspire, develop, and encourage people
  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD ) in a life sciences, informatics or computer science is required and PMP certification is desirable
  • 10+ years relevant work experience, including directing, leading, or managing multi-million dollar programs in a clinical diagnostics, high tech, biotech, pharma, or genome sequencing center setting
  • Effective team leadership and management of client relations, facilitating stakeholder relationships both internally and externally
  • Strong project and program management skills, including planning, prioritizing and organizing work, tracking budgets and meeting deadlines. Proven track record in the planning and execution of projects
  • Experience preparing and making presentations to executive-level management
  • Excellent communication, experienced in anticipating risk and working on counter-measures, excellent mediation skills, capable of working under changing conditions, strong analysis skills, and assertiveness
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate across disciplines and integrate all aspects of business as they impact development projects including negotiation of scope, roles and responsibilities, specifications, timelines, and resources up, across, and down in the organization to ultimately drive for results
  • Able to integrate feedback in a professional manner and thrive in multidisciplinary teams with members with highly diverse backgrounds.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Project (or other project management tools), Word, Power Point and Excel




  • Working knowledge of CLIA, FDA and/or ISO regulations
  • Ideal candidate will have experience managing product development projects under design control and in compliance with CLIA/LDT and/or FDA/IVD regulations
  • Prior R&D exposure in a clinical diagnostics, pharma, or genome sequencing center setting
  • Experience leading software development programs or programs that included software as an important element of the overall product system.
  • Demonstrated success managing of external partner relationships
