Job Description

The Senior Director of Lab Operations is responsible for leading Quest Diagnostics’ Employer Solutions domestic laboratory operations (forensic toxicology). The Senior Lab Director is responsible for the overall operations for three laboratories with volume of 44,000+ reqs per day and oversight of 700+ employees. The role is responsible through three lab directors for quality and timeliness of technical procedures, compliance, and overall lab budget. This role will partner closely with Scientific Directors and the R&D division.

The Sr. Lab Director is responsible for ensuring the overall success Laboratories operations as measured by meeting/maintaining budget projections; client satisfaction; professional staff development and overall communications within/between the laboratories, as well as with R&D, Sales/Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and IT. The Sr. Director will be responsible for strategy and execution driving improved operational excellence, customer experience and employee experience while upholding the history of superior quality.

The ideal candidate will have successfully demonstrated experience driving transformational change in a services business by building and motivating teams, leveraging technology and automation as well as bringing to life lean, six sigma, and problem-solving methodology. Director of Science and Technology, and Sr. Director of Operations to drive profitable growth and a stellar customer experience.

The individual in this role will work closely with the Director of Corporate Quality to cross-functionally lead and influence successful business outcomes relative to lab systems standardization, laboratory footprint changes, capacity building, and automation. As such, strong program management and influencing skills are critical.

This role is also responsible for oversight of Employee Health and Safety (EHS) and Facilities Management for the laboratories.

- Laboratory volume: 44.5K day

- Laboratory Sites: Lenexa, KS; Tucker, GA; Norristown, PA


 * 10-15 years of professional experience in lab operations or manufacturing, with a minimum of 5 years in a leader’s capacity. Prior toxicology or clinical lab experience is a plus, but not required.

  • BA or BS is required; an advanced degree is preferred
  • Advanced degree in Life Sciences and Business desirable. BSMT (MS/PhD desirable); ASCP Certification preferred
  • Preferred Six Sigma Black or Green Belt
