Job Description

BGI Seattle is a critical front-end office for driving international growth and establishing BGI as a global leader in ‘omics through partnerships, and providing an interface of knowledge and resource exchange between the global organization and Shenzhen headquarters. We are looking for a Sr. Business Development Manager with industry expertise to join our growing team in Seattle, WA, and contribute to the expansion of BGI business in North America. The position will lead in the formation and management of important new customer relationships, working to expand multiple lines of business for BGI

This position will play a critical role in supporting the global expansion of BGI, including building relationships with new partners and customers and creating new markets for BGI products and services. The Sr. Business Development Manager will work in close collaboration with other members of the Seattle team under the leadership of the Global Head of Research and Development, to create plans for driving adoption of BGI products and services in the North American market. This includes identifying new opportunities, strengthening partnerships and growing the business, with a focus on the commercial sector in pharmaceutical, healthcare, life science research and research universities.


Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assess market for BGI products and services across divisions
  • Create strategies and target lists of potential customers in pharmaceutical, healthcare and research universities
  • Establish strong relationships with appropriate decision makers within target companies and organizations
  • Effectively educate decision makers about BGI strengths and promote BGI products and services
  • Build channels and lines of business for BGI in targeted industries
  • Coordinate with BGI teams on strategy and partnership development
  • Identify new and innovative revenue and growth streams and reach new markets in North America
  • Perform other work related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of related work experience
  • Experience in business development in genomics, pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry
  • Proven track record of generating new customers and growing revenue
  • High degree of motivation, enthusiasm and flexibility
  • Positive team player able to help team thrive and play a critical role in a BGI’s expansion

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree or MBA
  • Experience working in a matrix environment or with cross-functional teams
  • Understanding of academic research and/or biotech industry institutions
