Job Description

Genomic Health is pioneering the application of genomics to clinical practice in order to dramatically improve the quality of treatment decisions for patients with cancer. As a member of the Non-Clinical Biostatistics team, the Senior Biostatistician will collaborate across Genomic Health, working closely with Biomedical Data Computing, Bioinformatics, Platform Technologies, Process Engineering, Pathology, and Commercial Operations and provide statistical expertise across a wide ranging spectrum of projects.


  • Serves as the statistical expert on cross-functional teams, working throughout assay/product development life cycles and in support of commercial laboratory operations
  • Selects and applies appropriate statistical methodology and techniques for obtaining solutions to all project related studies under general strategic guidance and in compliance with best practices.
  • Responsible for the design, analysis and reporting of experiments that address a wide range of problems including, but not limited to, any of the following:
    • Next Generation Sequencing, qPCR, IHC or Digital Image methods development
    • Biomarker discovery
    • New technology assessment
    • Development, integration, optimization, validation, migration, and automation of analytical methods and diagnostic tests
    • Data quality monitoring
    • Setting specifications for reagent and instrument qualification
  • Other responsibilities as assigned


  • Advanced degree in either Biostatistics, Statistics or Mathematics
  • Normally requires Ph.D and 5+ years or Master’s and 9+ years of experience, preferably with experience applying statistical methodology in a biotech, diagnostic or life sciences environment
  • Must have proven expertise with applying appropriate statistical methodologies to the following:
  • DOE
  • Process development, validation, and troubleshooting
  • Complex process optimization
  • Complex data monitoring
  • Statistical process control
  • Variance component estimation
  • Specification setting
  • First rate interpersonal and communication skills are essential with employees, management and customers who will have varied levels of technical or statistical background
  • Ability to integrate and apply feedback in a professional manner
  • Ability to prioritize and deliver to results with a high emphasis on quality
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams



  • Proficient in SAS or S+/ R; knowledge of a scripting language and/or SQL desirable
