Job Description

Responsible for providing technical and application specific support for field specialists, sales team, and customers during the pre and post sales process for products used by the healthcare and pharmaceutical industry. Role will act as a senior lead within the North American large scale column packing team, and will use expertise in chromatographic purification techniques, along with an in depth knowledge of chromatographic resins, to assist the sales team and manage the lab. Essential Responsibilities • Provide assistance with purification process development, process scale up, technology transfer, and troubleshooting issues with ability to discuss current chromatographic theory, state of the art large scale column packing methodology, and modeling studies on pressure flow relations used in scale up predictions 

• Provide technical leadership and experience during the sales process by identification, description, and demonstration of appropriate products based on in depth knowledge of customer's needs and focus. Supply information on additional product features including potential uses, developing capabilities and benefits to the customer such as simplification and cost savings 

• Use market and product knowledge to assist sales team in identifying design in opportunities, development of potential new or increased sales and protection of existing market share of products and services. 

• Communicate with sales leaders, account managers, application team members, and field specialists to align applications group and laboratory activities with sales and customer needs as well as business objectives 

• Develop custom and standard product related seminars, installation and training with recommendations for product usage and maintenance aimed toward improving and maintaining customer relationships and satisfaction 

• Facilitate team communication and the sharing of best practices. Provide professional guidance, align training and focus application lab activities to promote and support successful and productive interactions of the field team with the customer. Assist with the assimilation of new hires into the team and organization 

• Support participation in trade shows and professional conferences by performing setup, giving product presentations, demonstrations, training sessions and customer interfacing


• PhD + 5 years related experience or MS + 10 years related experience 

• BS degree or MS Degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Physics, and Chemical Engineering preferred 

• Knowledge of pharmaceutical; biopharmaceuticals production, including large scale purification with awareness/familiarity with clean room-regulations, quality, validation etc. 

• Demonstrated proficiencies in current chromatographic theory and practice at large scale (+30 cm diameter columns), and an in depth knowledge of chromatographic resins and packing techniques 

• Demonstrated proficiencies in protein chemistry & biochemical separations including Mab purification approaches 

• Management skills including team building, directing and management of personnel from multi-expertise fields/disciplines teams; management of outside vendors 

• Client management - Maintain customer relationships through presale, point of sale, post-sale work using solution based approach 

(often as last line of technical defense) 

• Educator/trainer/mentor - must have excellent presentation and public speaking skills 

• Proficiency in computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite products including PowerPoint, Excel and Word, demonstrated knowledge of Unicorn software helpful

• This role requires travel up to 20% 

• Must be willing and able to work out of the Marlborough, MA office. Desired Characteristics • PhD degree preferred in related business or technical field 

• Five or more years of demonstrated chromatography experience 

• Experience managing and maintaining a 1800+ sq ft laboratory with storage area, chemical and hardware (multi-ton) inventory management, ability to prepare buffers at scale, use of PPE and awareness of EHS standards/policy 

• Experience training others on column packing methodology 

• Experience with GE Life Sciences separations products 

• Engineering background helpful; construction/design 

• Manufacturing experience in validated setting preferred 

• Strong leadership skills (respected by peers and leadership for contributions to the business) 

• Technical support history, proven problem solving skills 

• Public speaking and lecture experience, ability to understand and present complex material in understandable terms 

• Demonstrated interpersonal communication (verbal and written) to customers, global counterparts and team members 

• Self-motivated, willingness to take the initiative to identify opportunities for improvement and take actions to improve 

• Ability to multi-task effectively and manage multiple priorities at one time
