Job Description

Genomic Health is seeking a highly talented and motivated Bioinformatic Scientist with strong data analysis and software engineering skills to develop products that help cancer patients make better informed treatment decisions. As a key member of the R&D team this individual will collaborate with Platform Technologies, Exploratory Bioinformatics, Product Sciences, Biostatistics, Data Management, and IT to implement sequence analysis solutions that enable Genomic Health to improve its technology platforms and discover novel cancer biomarkers. A strong candidate will have a track record of successfully implementing computationally efficient data analysis methods using next generation sequencing in a multidisciplinary team environment.

  • Collaborate with product, laboratory, and other bioinformatic scientists to design bioinformatic pipelines for technology development and biomarker discovery studies.
  • Implement, test, and maintain bioinformatic pipelines and analysis systems.
  • Evaluate and create new bioinformatic algorithms and software technologies to continuously improve Genomic Health’s capabilities and informatics infrastructure.
  • Perform data analysis to support internal and external studies. Provide recommendations based on data and sound analysis.
  • Represent the bioinformatics function in project teams. Present findings at internal meetings.


  • M.S. or Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related technical field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience designing, developing, and maintaining DNA/RNA next generation sequence analysis solutions.
  • Solid knowledge and practical experience using bioinformatic applications, such as aligners, genome assemblers, visualization tools, and variant callers on data from 2nd or 3rd generation sequencing techologies.
  • Programming and data analysis experience in a distributed Unix environment.
  • Excellent coding skills in Python, PERL, C/C++, or Java.
  • Skills in SQL-based RDMS (SQL Server, MySQL) and statistical packages (R, MATLAB).
  • A strong communicator who effectively adjusts to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Able to prioritize and deliver results with a high emphasis on quality, technical rigor, and attention to detail.
  • Sound scientific proficiency, creativity, and independence in thought.
  • Able to integrate feedback in a professional manner and thrives in multidisciplinary teams with members with highly diverse backgrounds.



  • Able to apply software engineering best practices to bioinformatic pipeline development.
  • Practical experience developing in the Cloud.
  • Large scale bioinformatic system design experience.
  • Experience developing software for a regulated product.
