Job Description

Role Overview:

We are now looking to recruit a highly motivated, creative and logical individual to automate the next wave of innovative methods to transform cancer patient care. The successful applicant will work at the forefront of genomic technologies in scaling and automating novel methods for noninvasive analysis of cancer genomes, enabling rapid analysis of ctDNA from plasma of cancer patients and other samples.  The automated processes will be developed for use in  clinical diagnostics laboratories both in the US and UK.  The role is a full time, hands-on laboratory-based position. Some travel to the US site will be required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Automating, troubleshooting and streamlining high-throughput workflows in both current and future pipelines
  • Developing SOPs for automated NGS-based methods and assisting in transitioning assays for use into the clinical diagnostic laboratories
  • Developing LIMs processes for updated automated assays
  • Working within a multidisciplinary team to help optimise eTAm-Seq assays for plasma sequencing and help develop enhanced NGS-based methods for ctDNA analysis


  • A BSc or similar degree in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry or other field related to next generation sequencing and cancer genetics (essential)
  • A PhD in Biology, Genetics, Chemistry or other field related to next generation sequencing and cancer genetics (desirable)


  • Extensive experience in automating liquid handling processes (for example using Beckman Coulter, Hamilton or Perkin Elmer systems) (essential)
  • Experience of scaling processes for use in a high-throughput clinical diagnostic laboratory (desirable)
  • Strong problem solving abilities (essential)
  • Experience with next generation sequencing library preparation (desirable)
  • Experience working to ISO 15189:2012, ISO 13485 or GCLP standards in a clinical diagnostic lab (desirable)
  • Excellent organisational, time management and communication skills (essential)
  • Excellent record keeping skills for maintaining detailed laboratory notebook records (essential)
  • Experience working with and updating a LIMs system (desirable)
  • Experience performing project management (desirable)
