Job Description
  • Purify recombinant proteins at scales ranging from milligrams to tens of grams using automated chromatography systems
  • Characterize in-process samples and purified proteins using methods including, but not limited to, SDS PAGE, RP HPLC, aSEC, LAL assay, activity assay and ELISA
  • Complete project plans according to all specifications, including time-line and budget
  • Evaluate and implement new technologies and work practices in the fields of protein expression, purification and characterization

 Client Interactions:

  • Serve as a technical lead during discussions with Aldevron clients
  • Assist in design of project plans and proposals that meet the requirements of Aldevron clients
  • Assist in generation of project reports and technical presentations


  • Maintain meticulous records; report results of scientific experiments and manufacturing runs accurately and in a timely manner
  • Ensure that equipment is well maintained and that the labs are clean, well-organized and safe
  • Write and review SOPs
  • Supervise other scientists as required
  • Complete other duties as assigned



  • The Scientist III, Protein has extensive, hands-on experience in fields of protein expression, purification and characterization.


  • Degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a closely related field
    • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of relevant work experience
    • Master's and 2+ years of relevant work experience
    • P.h.D.

 Skills and Knowledge:

  • Hands-on knowledge of AKTA chromatography systems and the Unicorn software platform
  • Strong working knowledge of tangential flow ultrafiltration for buffer exchange and concentration of proteins
  • Familiarity with a variety of enzyme assay platforms, including UV, fluorescence, fluorescence polarization and HTRF
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills


  • Ability to productively work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Flexibility and a willingness to work in a fast-paced environment that at times requires working hours in excess of a eight hours
