Job Description

Clontech Laboratories, Inc., is looking for a highly skilled, creative and self-motivated individual with experience in biochemistry and molecular biology to join our talented team of researchers. The successful candidate will have a passion for turning ideas into practical tools and be responsible for the development of the kits for protein purification, manipulation and characterization utilizing Clontech's novel high-capacity membrane based technology.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work in the laboratory to develop of novel methodologies for fast protein purification, manipulation and controlled enzymology.
  • Primary responsibility for experimental design & data analysis, but may work closely with other scientists in R&D, as needed.
  • Help prepare drafts and review technical documents related to product manufacture as well as customer-directed application notes.
  • Serve as functional expert to support sales and technical support representatives - may be required to give presentations to customers.
  • May attend conferences to present data, obtain information on current developments in protein sciences and develop external contacts.
Requirements

Education/Experience/Requirements

  • Ph.D. in an appropriate field (i.e., Biochemistry, Molecular Biology or related discipline) with a focus on protein science with 3+ years of post doctoral experience.
  • Advanced knowledge and experience in protein chemistry, protein engineering, refolding, purification and characterization using various methodologies such as SEC, IEX, Affinity, HIC, LC-MS, CE, HPLC/FPLC, etc.
  • In depth experience of bioconjugation of proteins with fluorescent and other detection probes; understanding of chemical synthesis behind it.
  • Familiarity with enzyme/antibody characterization, quality control, function and stability assays.
  • Hands-on experience with various molecular biology methods such as gene manipulation, cloning and protein expression.
  • Additional experience with technologies characterizing protein-small molecule or protein-protein interactions would be a plus.
  • Solid track record of accomplishments as evidenced by publications in major journals. Independent and self-motivated, with a strong sense of urgency and ability to drive a project to completion under tight deadlines.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks appropriately.
  • Strong interest in technology development and translating scientific ideas into novel applications.
  • Highly effective analytical and problem solving skills, including excellent attention to detail.
  • Collaborative personality with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
