We are looking to recruit a Scientific Database Curator for a demanding role in the curation, organisation and sharing of biological data. The Curator will join the UniProt Content team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. We require a resourceful individual to contribute to the maintenance and extension of UniProt databases in a number of ways; we expect this to include responsibilities such as: - the extraction of experimental protein data from the scientific literature and other databases - the analysis and annotation of protein sequences using a range of sequence analysis tools - working with the UniProt Development team’s software engineers to improve the database(s) contents and services, and - outreach to our scientific communities The specific project within our curation mandate for which we are recruiting is for the structural annotation of proteins and maintaining the close collaboration with our colleagues in the Protein Data Bank in Europe (PDBe) team. EMBL-EBI, part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. The mission of the Universal Protein Resource (UniProt) is to provide the scientific community with a comprehensive, high quality and freely accessible resource of protein sequence and functional information: the UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB). Biocuration is a core activity of the UniProt Consortium. Accurate and comprehensive representation of biological knowledge as well as providing easy access to this data for working scientists and as a basis for computational analysis, are primary goals of biocuration. The UniProt Content team provides both manual and automatic annotation. For more information on our activities, please read www.uniprot.org/help/biocuration.
