We are looking to recruit an expert structural biologist to join the Protein Data Bank in Europe Curation Team (PDBe: pdbe.org) at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) as a Scientific Database Curator. The work involves annotating preliminary PDB and Electron Microscopy Data Bank (EMDB) submissions and extracting relevant biological information. In addition, curators contribute to training, outreach and user-support activities of PDBe and the EMBL-EBI.
The Protein Data Bank in Europe (PDBe; pdbe.org) is a founding partner of the Worldwide Protein Data Bank organisation (wwPDB; wwpdb.org), which maintains the global archive of 3D structural data on biomacromolecules. PDBe is also the founder of the Electron Microscopy Data Bank (EMDB), which is now maintained with international partners. The PDBe team further maintains a number of databases that support deposition and advanced search and analysis services for structural biologists and the wider scientific community. The team consists of an international and inter-disciplinary mix of professionals (scientists and IT specialists).
EMBL-EBI is part of the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and is located on the Wellcome Trust Genome Campus near Cambridge in the UK. We are a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation. We provide a dynamic, international working environment and have close ties with both the University of Cambridge and the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute. EMBL-EBI staff enjoy many benefits including excellent sports facilities, a free shuttle bus to Cambridge and other nearby centres, an active sports and social club and an attractive working environment set in 55 acres of parkland.
