Job Description

The Sales Development Manager, Food Testing, Animal Health, AgBio, Biosecurity and Environmental Testing (FAABE) is responsible for meeting the needs of the expanding Applied Testing market, enhancing customer satisfaction and building customer relationships while selling proprietary/advanced technology products and services in the defined area. Additionally, the AT SDM offers proven knowledge in the specialized market segment areas with strong knowledge of extraction and assay technologies including automated extraction, liquid handling and detection technology systems. The AT SDM is considered within QIAGEN's organization as a key knowledge holder, contributes to the product development process and assists in the integration of new/acquired technology. He or she should be comfortable leading and working in teams, experienced at project management and successful selling at all customer levels. The AT SDM position supports the general sales staff (approx. 6-8 reps) as a market segment specialist reporting into the Sales Director for Applied Testing North America, within the Director of Market Development organization. Position available is for an applicant in the southeast region (AL, FL, PR, GA, SC, NC, TN).

-Willingness and ability to take on additional challenging tasks/project responsibilities assigned by manager, business team, or others
-Contributes to Sales and Marketing product development including technology and market assessment of portfolio gaps, and provide market feedback and market analysis for new concepts and products.

Sales Revenue / Budgets: Meet or exceed sales targets for assigned products/services and assigned business objectives. Support other specialists and representatives and develop tactical plans to maximize revenues.

Strategy: Implementation of corporate strategy in defined key accounts. Negotiate contract and execute pricing strategy to maintain existing business and develop new business.

Customer Focus: Through consultative selling, enhance customer satisfaction and increase our competitive advantage while building trust and relationships with customers. Maintain and develop strong relationships with key customers and references.

Planning / Forecasting: Develop and integrate an effective portfolio business plan with appropriate team members in the assigned territory. Forecast within accuracy guidelines. Perform pre-call planning and/or coordinating with TSR for increased sales effectiveness.

Business / Markets: Drive and initiate development of new business opportunities and references. Conduct seminars/exhibitions and increase number of strategic partnerships within market. Communicate market information through business teams, CRM market feedback, and/or other approved channels.

Manage Resources: Involve and support team members to achieve mutual company goals and objectives. Daily use of CRM database for input and output of customer information to increase sales effectiveness. Meet expense budget guidelines. Utilize communication channels to ensure effective communication across business units.

Decision Making: Makes sounds business decisions based on relevant information, takes calculated risks as necessary to achieve business objectives.

Personal Requirements
Individual with an advanced degree in the Life Science area, MS or higher preferred.

Proven knowledge in one or more of QIAGEN's Applied Testing focus markets including Animal Heath and Diagnostics, Food Safety Testing AgBio, and Biosecurity (Water, Environmental, Biodefense, etc). Minimum knowledge of one market area required, cross training of other market segments is possible. Demonstrating knowledge and experiences of the following networks is preferred (e.g.):
o Food Safety & Quality Testing: IAFP, IFT
o Veterinary Diagnostics: NAHLN, NVSL, and OIE networks.
o Biosecurity: Dept. of Defense, Dept. of Homeland Security, Centers for Disease Control, etc.

Must demonstrate the ability to sell across QIAGEN extraction and assay portfolio/value chain, from sample collection/stabilization to sample preparation to assay/modification to detection.

Should also have a broad understanding of and ability to sell QIAGEN’s automation portfolio as well as maintain knowledge of competitive technology/platforms. Should be comfortable working with various detection platforms including qPCR engines (ABI 7500/7900HT, BioRad iCycler, Cepheid SmartCycler, Roche LightCycler), and CE sequencing and fragment analysis for example.

Demonstrate ability to explore new markets with information gathering and market assessment. Should be able to manage 10-15 key opinion leaders, approx. 5 KOLs per focus market segment.

Able to interact with/educate customers at both higher (V.P./C.E.O.) and lower (lab tech) skill levels. Should be comfortable giving a technical seminar, oral presentation or poster at conferences. Selling to committees

Lab experience is a plus. Should be able to implement and troubleshoot extraction and assay lab workflows.

Should understand the workings and demands of regulated or environmentally controlled laboratory (A2LA/ISO certified, ISO 17025, BSL 2/3, etc).

Willingness to travel up to 66%.

US citizenship preferred but not required for entry into US Dept. of Defense and Homeland Security sites.
