Job Description

Stephen Shea’s Neuroscience Laboratory at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory is seeking an experienced laboratory technician to join their team. Ideally the candidate will be able to overlap with our departing current technician for training and continuity of expertise.

The Shea lab studies the neural circuitry of natural olfactory and auditory social communication and individual recognition in mice using electrophysiological, functional imaging, behavioral and genetic techniques.

Responsibilities will include:
- Ordering, organization and maintenance of laboratory materials
- Animal husbandry
- Conducting behavioral experiments
- Tissue processing
- Preparation of reagents
- General assistance and support with experiments for Professor Shea and other lab members

Requirements

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in a scientific discipline is required and a Master’s degree is desirable.

Experience: One to three years’ experience in laboratory science is required. Ideally the candidate will have experience with electrophysiology, histology, molecular biology, PCR genotyping, elementary electronics, optics, and/or other wet lab skills. Some experience programming in Matlab/Python is a plus.

Skills: The candidate must also have excellent communication and organizational skills and the ability to work well with others on shared projects.
