Illumina are seeking a recently qualified PhD, with a specialist in biochemistry/molecular biology/genetics, who has proven experience developing/optimising assays for biochemical and NGS experiments
Want to be a part of the winning team?
Illumina win Genomics England Project - first of its kind in the world
Illumina develop the world's 1st platform capable of sequencing a human genome for under $1000
Illumina outstrip their competitors for speed, accuracy and throughput
Illumina’s NGS platform combines the power of microfluidics, fluorescence detection, SBS chemistry and powerful informatics to create a robust and high through-put sample to answer solution. Underpinning this technology are the biochemical reactions that facilitate our patented sequencing by synthesis (SBS) chemistry. As part of the Consumables Development group, we are looking for a Research Scientist with a strong background in molecular biology. The ideal person will be someone who has experience developing and troubleshooting protocols (ideally NGS applications), and has a solid understanding of the protein and chemical aspects that can affect the success of an assay. We want someone more interested in the protocol than the result, who asks the question “why do we put that into the reaction?”
You will be joining a team that is responsible for optimizing the fundamental aspects of SBS chemistry, including buffers, polymerases and template interactions. If you want the chance to take Illumina NGS to the next level, this is the role for you.
- Perform lab-bench based experiments to improve the performance of Illumina sequencing platforms.
- Contributing to the ongoing development of Illumina's DNA sequencing systems.
- Perform analysis of complex datasets and provide interpretations that drive towards results.
- Work in close collaboration with other members of the Sequencing Biochemistry team.
- Provide regular updates on progress.
- Perform other duties as required.
