Twist Bioscience
Job Location
Job Description

Programmable DNA, the software of life, is finally here! Twist Bioscience is developing a disruptive Synthetic DNA technology that will change the world, enabling widespread health and sustainability. Synthetic biologists will use our products to engineer how organisms produce cures to diseases, everyday chemicals are made using the atmosphere as the carbon source, plants make their own fertilizers, in-vivo diagnostics will alert us when we are sick, and many more applications.

As a member of the R&D Bio/Chem team, the candidate will support the R&D molecular biology team developing custom DNA-based applications and assays for synthetic biology including high-throughput gene synthesis, high-throughput cloning process, and NGS-based QC. The candidate will also work with hardware engineers on implementation of processes developed by the R&D team, and work with database engineers on LIMS development for data tracking.

  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry or a closely-related field, and 0-5years of relevant R&D experience in the field of molecular biology.
  • Must have strong background in molecular biology techniques including DNA purification, DNA quantification, PCR/qPCR, enzymatic assays, and molecular cloning.
  • Must have direct experience with Next Gen Sequencing (NGS) and sample preparation for NGS.
  • Experience working with a LIMS database is highly desired.
  • Experience with liquid handling systems and automation tools is highly desired.
  • Excellent communication skills. Proficient in writing, and communicating in English. Able to present data effectively.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills. Respectful and open to other’s views; contribute to building a positive team spirit.
  • Excellent documentation skills. Able to prepare documents including data summaries, technical and analytical reports, and transfer the procedures to manufacturing.

About Our Organization

At Twist Bioscience, our expertise is synthetic DNA. We have developed a proprietary semiconductor-based synthetic DNA manufacturing process featuring a 10,000-well silicon platform capable of producing synthetic biology tools, such as oligonucleotides, genes, pathways, chassis and genomes. By synthesizing DNA on silicon instead of on traditional 96-well plastic plates, our platform overcomes the current inefficiencies of synthetic DNA production, and enables cost-effective, rapid, high-quality and high throughput synthetic gene production. The Twist Bioscience platform has the potential to greatly accelerate the development of personalized medicine, sustainable chemical production, improved agriculture production as well as new applications such as in vivo diagnostics, biodetection and data storage.
