We are looking for a highly motivated and independent scientist to join a multidisciplinary project team aiming to discover small molecules targeting host mechanisms that prevent infection by a range of clinically relevant pathogens. These small molecules will be used to test potential treatment strategies in preclinical models and serve as starting points for further development towards clinical investigation. The overall team includes immunologists, molecular biologists, microbiologists characterizing disease pathways and targets, as well as chemists and experts in assay development/screening.
The successful candidate’s primary role will be protein biochemistry and chemical biology. The candidate will have responsibility for the development and implementation of biochemical assays to probe validated targets including protein-protein interactions and assess compound activities as needed to support and drive novel drug discovery efforts. The candidate will also contribute to mechanism of action studies.
- The development, validation, and execution of biochemical assays that are amenable to medium- and high-throughput approaches These screens will be developed in close collaboration with project team members including the project leadership
- Expression, purification, and characterization of proteins to enable biochemical assays and also for assays targeted at small-molecule discovery
- Effective communication with medicinal and computational chemists to advance compounds
- Close interactions with biology colleagues and collaborators to identify critical experiments for rapid compound progression
- The introduction and application of novel methods that may impact project direction significantly
- Maintaining the highest of professional standards for laboratory safety and record keeping.
- The preparation, and effective communication, of results in oral and written form.
- Ph.D in biochemistry, chemistry or related discipline
- Strong background in the concepts and methods of protein chemistry, biochemistry, and molecular biology with evidence of creative solutions to complex problems
- Experience with plate-based assay development of biochemical assays. Experience with cell-based assays would be advantageous.
- Expertise with selected modern biophysical methods, for example ITC, NMR, MS, and/or structural biology would be advantageous.
- Candidate should have an outstanding academic and professional record of accomplishments.
- Experience in microbiology, or with mammalian/microbial interactions, would be advantageous.
The successful candidate will be a data-driven, analytical thinker, with a high degree of innovative thinking. A premium will be placed on organizational abilities including first-class record keeping and the importance of interpersonal and communication skills.
