Job Description

The DNA Enzymes Division of New England Biolabs, Inc. invites applicants for the position of Research Scientist.  The successful applicant will work within a group of researchers to characterize enzymes that act on DNA through a variety of modern biochemical and molecular biology techniques. This position offers exciting opportunities for broad research training, collaboration with academic and industrial institutions, publishing in peer-reviewed journals and participation in national and international conferences.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Conduct basic and applied research on DNA ligases and other DNA repair enzymes.

  • Develop novel, high throughput assays for enzyme characterization.

  • Prepare and study natural and engineered enzymes. 

  • Publish original research. 


Qualifications and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry, bioengineering, molecular biology or related field.

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in an academic or industrial environment.

  • Technical expertise in enzymology, protein purification, and protein engineering.

  • Technical expertise in modern enzyme kinetics methods and data fitting software.

  • Publication of original scientific work in high-quality journals demonstrating substantial experience in enzymology and assay development.

  • Proven bench skills and experience with high-throughput experiment design and analysis.

  • Strong scientific curiosity, integrity, creativity and self-motivation.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects in parallel.

  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative setting.

  • Excellent interpersonal abilities including verbal and written communication skills.
