Job Description

Reporting Structure:  Reports to the Director, Research Programs

RPMs are the main points of contact at Genome BC for funded project teams and are responsible for monitoring projects to assess progress and maximize outcomes.

Term: Permanent, full-time

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Monitor scientific and financial progress of projects to ensure that all goals and milestones are completed on time and on budget
  • Critically assess outcomes and anticipated future impact, guiding projects to succeed in reviews of research progress
  • Work with Sector Development group to assist in the process to realize socio-economic benefits arising from the research
  • Launch new research projects by facilitating project start-up activities, including finalization of project budgets, work plans and milestones
  • Work with the Finance group to ensure the accurate and timely analyses of project financial information and the distribution of funds
  • Coordinate the process to close out projects after completion
  • Provide assistance with problem solving, risk management, and collaborations,  in order to optimize scientific outcomes of funded projects
  • Work with the Research Programs group to anticipate and resolve operational challenges that impact multiple projects
  • Foster relationships, facilitate meetings, and communicate effectively with project teams, the lead institutions and other partners
  • Work with the Communications group to celebrate research successes

Skills and experience:

  • Excellent proactive communication, relationship management, team-building and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated organizational and project management skills and careful recordkeeping practices, preferably in a science or technology environment
  • Demonstrated skills in financial analysis
  • Demonstrated experience with milestone-driven research and an ability to identify and assess objective, specific, quantifiable measures of success
  • Experience with critical evaluation of scientific proposals and reports, including experimental design, interpretation of data and statistical analysis
  • Broad knowledge of molecular biology and genetics
  • Understanding of data ownership and data sharing issues
  • Experience in one or more key economic sectors important to British Columbia (i.e., health, forestry, fisheries, agriculture, environment, energy and mining)
  • Experience with the BC life sciences research community
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment with frequent deadlines
  • Ability to work flexible hours on occasion



  • PhD in life sciences or equivalent combination of education and work experience
