Job Description

The Tuveson Laboratory is seeking an experienced and enthusiastic lab manager for an immediate, full-time position at Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory (CSHL).

The Tuveson Laboratory has led the field in developing mouse and cell culture models of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma, and we are interested in using those models to uncover biological pathways that play a role in pancreatic cancer progression and in applying the knowledge from these studies to design novel therapies for this disease.

The successful candidate will oversee daily operations in the laboratory, helping to support the success of all the members of the lab. The candidate will assist in arranging equipment purchases, provide user training on lab equipment, maintain lab equipment, manage assignment of laboratory spaces, ensure compliance with laboratory and government rules, organize and maintain inventories of laboratory reagents, manage the purchasing and stocking of consumables and lab reagents, help to manage a database of our mouse colonies, manage external requests to share reagents, assist in training students, assist in the management of laboratory projects, and aid in performing basic bench work as needed. The candidate will also be responsible for performing basic cell culture to maintain cell stocks.

Requirements

Education: Ideally, the successful candidate will possess a Master’s degree, but a Bachelor’s degree with significant experience would be considered.

Experience: The candidate must have a minimum of 5 years postgraduate experience working in a laboratory setting, including experience in lab management and organization (e.g. stocking the laboratory, managing inventories). In addition, the candidate should be familiar with common software including Microsoft Word and Excel. Finally, the candidate should have experience with basic molecular biology procedures (e.g. DNA isolation, electrophoresis, and cloning) as well as mammalian cell culture procedures (e.g. aseptic technique and passaging cell lines).

Skills: The successful candidate should possess excellent organizational, analytical and communication skills; superb attention to detail; strong work ethic; the willingness and ability to take initiative; and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team. The candidate must be curious, highly motivated, and excited about performing transformative research in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
