Job Description

Clontech is looking for an energetic – hands on – research associate to join our research team to assist in the development of novel research reagent systems and kits. Candidate will use their excellent bench skills to assist senior research staff in the design, execution and analysis of experiments aimed at developing new tools and reagents for molecular biology.   

Primary Duties & responsibilities

  • Use technical expertise to conduct experiments independently under guidance of senior scientific staff

  • Analyze, interpret and report on data obtained from experiments and propose next steps

  • Maintain an accurate and detailed lab notebook enabling other scientists to reproduce results

  • Participate in the preparation of technical documents including work instructions and user manuals

  • Maintain a broad knowledge of state-of-the-art techniques and theories

  • Create and develop new methods and technologies for project advancement

  • Prepare complex technical reports, summaries, protocols, and quantitative analyses

  • May provide technical training to laboratory personnel and others within the company

Requirements

Education / Experience /Requirements

  • BS or MS degree in Molecular Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry.

  • Minimum of 8 years related post-graduate experience working in a laboratory research environment in industry

  • Extensive experience with quantitative molecular biological methods (e.g. qPCR)

  • Experience with reagent formulation required; experience with room temperature stabilized enzyme formulations a plus

  • Experience with BSL-2 level practices required; prior work with human derived samples desired

  • Solid theoretical knowledge and practical skill in most common laboratory procedures, such as cloning, nucleic acid isolation, PCR, protein expression and purification, DNA transfection, and cell culture

  • Must be able to design experiments independently, including appropriate controls

  • Self-motivated, possessing a strong sense of urgency to drive a project to completion under tight deadlines and a clear ability to prioritize tasks accordingly

  • Excellent organizational, record keeping and communication skills.

  • Collaborative  personality with strong interpersonal skills

  • Demonstrated interest and/or ability to rapidly learn new technologies to broaden skill-sets and areas of knowledge
