Candidate should be able to (i) perform experiments to characterize nutritional requirements, chemical sensitivity and biochemical activity of cultured mammalian, bacterial and/or yeast cells and (ii) maintain, program and run both Tecan Aquarius and Genesis robots for the production of 96- and/or 384-well microplates for use in Phenotypic MicroArray (PM) research and (iii) order and stock consumable and reagents for mammalian cell culture and bacterial labs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The research assistant will perform all duties associated with culturing mammalian, bacterial and yeast cells to perform various experiments that evaluate cell metabolism and chemical sensitivity. Must be able to execute existing standardized experimental protocols as well as develop new protocols. In addition, time will be spent learning how to maintain, program and run both Tecan Aquarius and Genesis liquid handling robots for manufacturing various microplates used in Phenotype MicroArray research. Duties demand knowledge of aseptic technique, safe handling of biohazardous materials, maintaining laboratory notebooks, tabulating and graphing data, preparing technical reports and calibrating analytical instrumentation. The candidate should be familiar with running widows based PC software like Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. The candidate should be able to perform experiments that use spectrophotometry and densitometry. Additional responsibilities include ordering and organizing laboratory supplies, participating in laboratory chores such as biological waste sterilization and disposal, and assisting in other R&D projects as directed.
