Job Description

You are a highly innovative scientist familiarized with new scientific trends and molecular biology technologies. You have a strong knowledge of chemical, biochemical and molecular principles of nucleic acids from eukaryotes and prokaryotes.   Your resourcefulness will be leveraged as you deal with complex concurrent projects and work towards strong conclusions in the face of new and challenging areas of scientific uncertainty.  You will have the opportunity to advance your scientific career by publishing scientific papers and generating patents, where appropriate, and with the appropriate approvals.  You will assume responsibilities for R&D activities directed towards the introduction of future products to meet new market opportunities.  

 Additionally you will:

  • Design, develop, innovate and execute laboratory experiments
  • Perform hands-on experiments
  • Manage project timelines, including directing Lab Technologist research activities     
  • Participate in formal processes to support the transition from research to product introduction
  • Participate in a wide range of scientific discussions
  • Make presentations to scientific staff and management
  • Prepare scientific papers and company white papers
  • Review scientific literature in areas of interest to the company
  • Assist in the development and refinement of laboratory protocols as required for Good Laboratory Practice
  • Assist in the preparation of patents and/or regulatory submissions arising from DNA Genotek research activities
Requirements

Education Required:

  • PhD in molecular biology and/or biochemistry plus a minimum of 2 post-doctoral years of additional training.  In exceptional cases, an equivalent combination of relevant job experience and on-the-job training may be suitable.

 

Experience and Other Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of nucleic acids and protein chemistry
  • Sequencing, cell culture and/or microbiology experience and knowledge of System Biology would be preferred
  • Prior microbiome experience in an industry or academic research setting is an asset
  • Experience developing complex experimental designs within research and/or regulatory      settings
  • Ability to multitask and work simultaneously on multiple projects with varying levels of overlap
  • Ability to write concise documents and attention to detail in writing and experimental planning.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving and scientific abilities
  • Experience supervising is an asset
  • Strong academic standing and record of scientific publications
