Job Description

Overall responsibility for North America sales team

Develop and implement a comprehensive sales strategy that maximizes DNAnexus opportunities across the region.

Manage a team of enterprise software sales representatives that includes recruiting, hiring, and training new reps on the DNAnexus sales process. Develop and execute our North American sales plan to maximize revenue. Sell and promote the sale of DNAnexus products and services to prospects and customers including negotiating price, terms, and conditions of the sale. Participate in strategic and tactical planning for the business. Build working relationships with internal colleagues including science and engineering as well as external partners. Generate and achieve monthly regional forecasts and accurately predict revenue on a monthly basis. Ensure appropriate operational planning is effectively executed to meet Company specifications. Manage escalations and conduct weekly progress meetings with sales team.


Minimum five years of sales management experience within enterprise software market selling into healthcare and/or life science industry. Experience hiring and training new sales representatives. Demonstrated leadership skills. Written and verbal communication skills. Prior experience presenting strategic and commercial content to prospects and customers. Able to negotiate price, other concessions and terms and conditions. Strong quantitative and analytical abilities. Ability to resolve customer satisfaction issues.

  • Lead the work of direct and indirect reports, including Regional Sales Reps
  • In collaboration with Marketing, develop and oversee go to market strategies, goals and targets
  • Sales force size and structure evaluation and implementation
  • Establish incentive plans to drive execution
  • Develop mechanisms and execute on processes to regularly monitor and track sales performance/progress, including development of budget and use of budget/resources.
  • Work regularly with direct reports and their team members in the field
  • Establish and maintain productive and collaborative working relationships with cross functional groups and peers across business.
  • Ensure compliance with all laws, regulations and policies that govern the conduct of activities

  • Develop and cultivate strong relationships with our customers. This should include periodic communication with our customers to ensure that we are meeting and exceeding expectations.
  • Maintain a proactive continuous improvement and professional development commitment.
  • Work effectively in a fast paced environment. Work independently but also in collaborative teams to ensure Company's objectives are met.

Experience, Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelors Degree; Masters in Life Sciences or MBA preferred.
  • 5+ years of enterprise software sales management experience
  • Experience selling software platforms on the cloud or web.
  • Must possess both strategic and tactical ability.  Will be required to call on, visit and correspond with senior level personnel.
  • Experience selling into life sciences, healthcare and related industries and possess a strong understanding of the bioinformatics market.
  • Proven track record of exceeding annual revenue/profit targets
  • Ability to multi-task, responds to rapid change, manage projects, manage detail, manage people and resources, set realistic and achievable goals/objectives and timelines.
  • Ability to navigate a fast-paced private equity environment.
  • Strong technical appreciation and ability to assimilate complex material quickly.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills a must.
  • Ability to travel as necessary, up to 70% of the time.
