The newly established Neuroscience department is looking for an experienced in vitro pharmacologist. The candidate will assume a hands-on role as part of a team focused on supporting drug discovery efforts. The candidate will lead an in vitro pharmacology lab that develops and runs cell-based assays to support medicinal chemistry efforts of our GPCR and ion channel targets. A strong background in neuroscience and experience in pursuing GPCRs and ion channels as drug targets is essential. Experience with automated electrophysiology systems is a plus. An understanding of neurological and psychiatric disease biology will be an added advantage. Experience leading drug discovery teams and in elucidating complex receptor pharmacology as well as a strong understanding of ion channel biophysics is highly desirable. As an integral member of neuroscience drug discovery teams, the candidate will design strategies to solve challenges, execute experiments, identify next steps, and communicate findings to the team. Candidates will have a PhD and postdoctoral experience followed by at least 2-5 years of drug discovery experience. Technical requirements include expertise in Calcium influx and GPCR second messenger assays, GTPgS and radioligand binding assays and functional characterization of mechanism of drug action on GPCRs and ion channels. Experience in isolation and culture of primary neurons and glia from rodents, basic molecular biology and cell culture will be an added advantage.
The candidate should be able to work under minimal supervision, be team-oriented and collaborative. The candidate should be an effective communicator, be organized and detail-oriented, and adept at trouble shooting.
