Main Duties and Responsibilities 
This position is a laboratory-based role in Purification Process Sciences within Biopharmaceutical Development. The candidate will execute laboratory work related to protein purification, conjugation, and characterization to support the development of monoclonal antibodies, non-antibody proteins, and antibody-drug conjugates. The main focus will be on purification and conjugation process development.  Responsibilities include designing, executing and analyzing experiments to support activities with the perspective of future clinical manufacturing. The position requires collaborating with cross-functional groups in Research and Development in order to meet project timelines and company goals. Additional job expectations include critically reviewing analytical and process data, understanding process operations and contributing to future experimental plans.
The candidate must be able to maintain accurate records of all experiments and data. He/she is expected to present data at group meetings and project team meetings, and must be capable of critical thinking and attention to detail in supporting the preparation and review of reports and presentations. Excellent writing and communication skills are a prerequisite.
The candidate should be able to work with some supervision and is expected to work independently on a day-to-day basis. Expectations for independence will increase with time and experience in the position.
Essential Requirements 
Education: BS or MS Degree in Biochemistry, Bioengineering or Related Fields.
For R+D Associate II : BS with 2-5 years of relevant industrial experience, or MS with 0-3 years of relevant industrial experience.
For Associate Scientist I : BS with 5-8 years of relevant industrial experience, or MS with 3-5 years of relevant industrial experience.
The candidate should have experience in protein purification, including chromatography, filtration, tangential flow filtration, viral inactivation, and harvesting methods. He/she should be able to operate LC/HPLC systems such as AKTA explorer, AKTA Avant and Agilent HPLC. He/she should be able to perform basic analytical techniques such as HPLC assays and SDS-PAGE. The individual should have a good understanding of protein biochemistry and working knowledge of analytical tools for protein characterization. The candidate is expected to be highly team oriented, organized, highly efficient, and capable of executing multiple projects with some independence.
Desirable Requirements 
Experience with protein conjugation is advantageous. Familiarity with statistical design of experiments is a plus.
