Job Description

The Proteomics Center of Excellence (PCE) at Northwestern University is seeking a highly self-motivated and service-oriented individual to join as a Senior Scientist and Director of our established Northwestern Proteomics Core Facility.  The core facility provides services to biomedical researchers across both campuses of Northwestern University and is an integral part of a larger proteomics research center (PCE) at Northwestern University.  A successful candidate will have a solid understanding of proteomics techniques acquired from their prior research and service experience. A successful candidate will coordinate with his/her staff to develop and apply novel and established protocols to a variety of research projects in collaboration with basic and translational scientists at Northwestern University.  In addition to scientific duties, responsibilities for this position include supervision of instrument scheduling, management of technical staff, quality control analysis, troubleshooting, and billing for services rendered.  For well-qualified individuals, a non-tenure-track faculty appointment may be offered.

Requirements

Primary duties and responsibilities:

  • Operate and maintain a Thermo Fisher Scientific Velos Orbitrap mass spectrometer with Proxeon nanoLC.  
  • Understanding of basic qualitative and quantitative proteomics techniques (SILAC, TMT/iTraq, Label-free quantitation).
  • Implement and optimize new strategies for proteomics sample preparation and analysis.
  • Analyze data and present interpretations in scientific meetings and publish research in peer reviewed journals.
  • Contribute to grant and report writing in collaboration with core facility users.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate with at least 3 years’ experience in proteomics research.
  • Five or more years’ experience with peptide/protein separations and analysis by liquid chromatography - mass spectrometry is required. 
  • Ability to multi-task and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
  • Excellent organizational skills and a desire to work in a service-oriented environment are required.
  • Experience supervising a core facility is preferred.
