The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) customer is conducting important microbial transmission research using next generation sequencing of microbial genomes and novel bioinformatics pipelines under development at the CDC. This research includes sequencing of numerous hepatitis, HIV, TB and STD pathogen genomes and subgenomic regions which will generate very large sequence and metadata (clinical, epidemiological, demographical, etc.) datasets. Data management support is needed for the collection, management, curation and analysis of the large data sets. In order to conduct this important microbial transmission research, we need a highly skilled data manager familiar with next generation sequencing and related epidemiological and clinical data, and network-based data-storage. An experienced project data manager support is needed for the following tasks: • Work with complex computerized records systems and maintain integrity and security of these records and databases • Provide clerical duties such as data entry, transcription, recording information from human and animal biological specimens that arrive in the labs collected during outbreaks or special studies by our team or sent to CDC from other health agencies or institutions around the world. • Collect and record genomic sequencing data, specimen information and metadata from various microbial studies in the center. • Manage custom databases containing the specimen details, results, epidemiological, and demographical data, and sorting of information • Generate data retrievals and summaries • Implement strategy for data cleaning and the design and programming of sequence and clinical and epidemiological databases • Estimate information technology (IT) resources required for successful completion of the project • Participate in the development and implementation of quality management systems initiatives • Manage laboratory informatics including but not limited to radio-frequency identification (RFID) and barcoding systems • Make software recommendations needed for specific information technology (IT) or database related problems or needs to maintain productivity • Assist with all IT-related projects, including bioinformatics pipeline development, freezer inventories, select agent tracking databases, etc. • Communicate and coordinate meetings with IT officials, senior security specialists, and division representatives regarding databases, bioinformatic pipelines in development, IT projects to solve operational and data problems.
