Position Summary:
The Project Manager is key to driving execution of Illumina’s product development efforts.  At Illumina Project Managers manage cross-functional teams that are accountable for overall program success from concept to successful commercialization.  Project Managers work with an established phase gate product development process to ensure development programs meet schedule, quality, scope, and cost targets. Successful Program Managers are able to lead and work collaboratively with program “Core Operation & Quality Team” members from various functions (, Development, Operations, Quality, Supply Chain, etc.) to successfully drive new products to market under aggressive timelines.  The successful candidate must be able to work independently, handle multiple programs in parallel, and communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Responsibilities:
 
Manage operations project core teams in the development of program plans which include resource needs, scope, budget and quality targets
Ensure successful execution of program plans, track, manage and communicate progress against contract targets to team and stakeholders
 
Track, manage and communicate plan changes to team and stakeholders
 
Work effectively with stakeholders to ensure program goals are in alignment with business objectives
 
Schedule and lead phase gate reviews with Operation’s leadership 
 
Identify and resolve or escalate project issues, facilitate tradeoff decisions, and remove obstacles
 
Ensure our product development efforts adhere to the product development process and design control standards
 
Continuously analyze and manage program risk
 
Requirements:

  • 5+ years managing development programs in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and /or life science industries
  • Prior experience within Manufacturing, Quality and or Supply Chain is strongly preferred
  • Clinical and/or IVD development experience preferred
  • Successful track record of bringing new technology/products to market
  • Interpersonal and facilitation skills- proven ability to effectively build relationships and achieve consensus across a wide range of functions and constituents
  • Communication- Must be able to effectively communicate at all levels of the organization to include being comfortable presenting and driving meetings.
  • Business Knowledge - Sound grasp of the key business drivers and considerations in the biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device and /or life science industries
  • Leadership – ability to identify key issues, motivate and empower others to address them in a way which builds morale, generates ownership and commitment
  • Self-starter with superior problem-solving, analytical and organizational skills and a track record for high performance and superior delivery
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative skills; detail-oriented with ability to see the big picture and to work effectively at both high and detailed levels
  • Ability to integrate input from multiple members across cross-functional teams
  • Ability to rapidly adapt in a dynamic environment

Education:

  • BS in life sciences or related field required, advanced degree preferred
  • PMP certification preferred
