Job Summary
Working within a matrix management model, the Development Assistant is part of the Development Operations Team and reports directly to the Director, Development Operations. This position serves as an administrative generalist for various tasks within the department. The Development Assistant is expected to take initiative, be a self-starter and be able to work independently. Must maintain professionalism, be flexible and able to handle multiple tasks and changing priorities and remain composed under pressure of deadlines. Must exhibit dependability and willingness to work as an integral member of the Development team and be capable of working well within all levels of the organization. The Development Assistant must be able to effectively communicate the mission, values and scope of the institution.

- Serve as department receptionist which includes answering phones, routing calls and answering inquiries about the Hutch
- Receive gift contribution information via phone and mail and process accordingly
- Receive, sort, and distribute department mail
- Submit work orders/purchase orders on behalf of department programs.
- Order and replenish department supplies
- Maintain order in all common spaces including storage cabinets and printer counters
- Serve as point-of-contact for department printer and copier machine maintenance
- Maintains confidentiality of all sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form
- Special projects as assigned
- Participates as member of the Development Operations Team


Summary of Experience
- Bachelors Degree preferred
- Two to three years experience in non-profit, development or related field

- Exceptional customer service skills required
- Strong organizational skills required
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Must have strong attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize workload and work under pressure
- Self motivation and flexibility
- Ability to build relationships and work in a team environment
- Ability to work under the direction of others and perform special projects as assigned
- Ability to set priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, changing environment
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions and request clarification when needed
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook. Experience with The Raiser's Edge preferred
- Knowledge of general office procedures and equipment
