Lucigen is seeking a Product Manager to develop and manage a portfolio of molecular biology research products, including NGS library preparation kits and genomic services, protein expression, cloning, amplification, and competent cells. The Product Manager is a product/category expert and is responsible for implementing, driving and advancing product strategies, programs, solutions and trainings with customers and sales associates. S/he will maintain a detailed understanding of their assigned technology and its associated competitive products including life cycles, pricing programs and technology advantages. The Product Manager serves as a liaison between the company and its distribution partners, and may also be called on as a technical product expert to develop and present sales proposals.
The ideal candidate will have a strong molecular biology background, with a solid understanding of the customer mindset and the ability to present both technical and non-technical marketing/sales information. Other responsibilities include the identification and growth of various client specific opportunities, as well as the development and execution of sales strategies in collaboration with Lucigen management. Close interaction with marketing, R&D, quality and production will help to deploy customer-centric plans for growing sales volume and profit. An ability to be a strong advocate for the voice of the customer during product development is highly desirable.
Develop and implement the short and long term marketing plan with supporting materials for several product lines.
Responsible for all aspects of customer relationship management, portfolio management, proposal development, and intelligence gathering within the assigned market.
Demonstrates a broad knowledge of the market environment including: current and future market trends, applications, practices and information affecting the business; industry trends; competition and competitive environment; and, marketplace strategies and tactics.
Provide thought leadership in pursuing new and/or unconventional approaches to solve customer challenges, empowering and inspiring others to think and approach challenges in innovative ways.
Must be familiar with an ISO 13485 quality system and understand how to develop new products and services under design control.
Must have experience in managing multiple stakeholders and resolving conflict within teams.
Must have excellent communication skills including oral, written and presentation techniques.
Nature and Scope
This position interacts with varying levels of internal and external personnel and will require direct customer communication, public presentation, and a team-focused approach. Strong business and customer focus are essential. Effectiveness in this role requires the ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing. Interaction normally requires the ability to gain cooperation of others and conduct presentations of technical information. Up to 20% travel (international and domestic) may be required.
Demonstrated effectiveness in marketing planning and execution, including participating in market analysis, strategic planning, and direct customer interaction. Business development skills and cross-functional team leadership experience preferred. The ability to see new business opportunities, set and meet aggressive objectives and develop strong working relationships will be required for success.
