Job Description

The Product Solutions Manager is responsible for developing market strategies for new opportunities within Mass Spec applications and leading coordination of the required sales, marketing and engineering activities. The Product Solutions Manager will be considered the “business expert” among the field sales, marketing, engineering, and product development organizations as well as the corresponding customer base.  The position requires a high level of influence within the organization to enable setting strategic direction and road mapping for the product line thereby creating continuous incremental product value to the customer.  The Product Solutions Manager must provide guidance to the R&D, engineering, and manufacturing organizations regarding new product development to ensure the technical, marketing, and sales objectives are achieved.   The Product Solutions Manager will coordinate all activities related to product launches to include the development of supporting marketing documentation and sales tools which translate engineering specs to product features, benefits, and customer value.

 

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

 

  1. Coordinates, prioritizes and monitors new product development activities to ensure that all functional groups are participating and achieving their tactical activities in bringing new products under development to targeted Mass Spec customers.

  2. Builds relationships with customers and continually monitors and profiles key “Critical-To-Customer” product fulfillment requirements to ensure the company maintains a sustainable competitive advantage over current industry incumbent suppliers of like products/technology.  Regularly communicates voice of the customer (VOC) information to the organization and acts as the customers’ internal product champion to ensure all functional groups are addressing gaps in providing optimum product to customers.

  3. The Product Solutions Manager is responsible for growing the sales of Mass Spec products annually.

  4. Analyzes the current competitive product performance specifications for IH&S Mass Spec product lines.

  5. Provides regular updates to the ASD team relative to new product announcements, competitive information announcements, new product and/or existing product specifications.

  6. Participates in the planning and execution of the company’s product strategy and roadmap including a detailed review of product performance.

  7. Directs Marketing Communication (MARCOM) activity relative to product data sheets, market advertising campaigns, trade show selection and attendance, sales training materials.

  8. Oversees the generation of leads and lead fulfillment programs to identify potential new customers and appropriate follow-through.

  9. Develops product pricing and associated pricing policies consistent with the target market for the product.

  10. Works closely with Operations and Finance to understand the key elements of product costs including direct material and labor, overhead burden factors (labor, material, floor space allocation, OTC), and warranty expense.  Through monitoring COGS Variances, prioritize and monitor key programs to reduce product costs with functional groups and gain efficiency within the product cost structure to maintain a competitive edge with regard to Product Value. 

  11. Leads, organizes and monitors the sales forecasting process for synthesizing customer forecasts.

       

Requirements
  • Requires a bachelor’s degree in a Technical discipline (Physical Science, Life Science or Engineering) and/or a Business discipline (Administration or Marketing) with at least 5 years of relevant experience and proven technical aptitude and/or applications knowledge.

  • Experience in a product environment targeted as components and/or sub-systems for sale into OEM Instrument manufacturers, or for complete OEM Instrument products for sales to end-users of such equipment highly desirable.

  • Familiar with a variety of marketing concepts, practices and procedures. 

  • Good financial understanding and analysis at the Income Statement level of financial reporting required.

  • Excellent communication, public speaking and presentation skills.

    Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate (written and verbal) with customers and work within a team environment.
