Introduction to Job Post:

Takara Bio USA, Inc. has two (2) Product Manager roles within the Marketing Team:

 

Product Manager – Instrumentation:

This position is ideally suited for a candidate with strong background in managing the marketing and development of instrument systems.  The successful candidate will have demonstrated their ability to work with both chemistry and engineering teams as well as to interact closely with the sales and support teams.  The candidate should also have a strong working knowledge of the genomics market.

 

The Product Manager is responsible for managing a limited range of products through the product lifecycle that includes working with Engineering and R&D to set specifications to guide product development, estimating market opportunity and competitive positioning; developing and implementing launch plans that include a wide variety and complexity of promotional activities, delivering training to worldwide sales team to guide sales activities; working with operations team to ensure that product availability meets market expectations.  The Product Manager also participates in planning activities that include but are not limited to recommending pricing changes, analyzing competitive position, forecast sales for the coming year and developing a marketing plan for their area of responsibility.

 

Product Manager – Enzyme Supply/OEM:

This position is ideally suited for a candidate with a strong background in managing, developing and executing high impact go-to-market strategies for B2B solutions. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a strong working knowledge of the life science/clinical research markets and the ability to interact with customers to design and set specifications for the launch of new bulk, custom and/or OEM products. The Product manager will work closely with the Director of Marketing to develop strategic plans for the enzyme supply business, perform market analysis, and will help devise, run, and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns targeted to industrial researchers in the pharma and biotechnology customer segments.

Position Summary / Objective:

Both Product Manager roles report to the Associate Director or higher within Marketing and is responsible for working closely with their supervisor to set priorities and schedule work.  It is expected that the Product Manager receives guidance on priorities and processes and works closely with supervisor on strategy development.

 

The Product Manager role is office-based.

 

Travel, including overnight, is required approximately 30%, some international travel may be required.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Manage product line through the entire product life cycle including conducting market research to identify needs, setting specifications for R&D to meet identified needs, launching products and retiring products.
  • Actively participate in the development of strategic marketing plan and implement tactical programs for successful product launches; develop and implement comprehensive product launch plans.  Propose annual business and marketing plans for managed product lines, responsible for implementing tactical marketing plans and jointly responsible with sales team for achieving annual sales plan. Make recommendations for pricing and promotional plans to be included in the annual budget.
  • Analyze market opportunities and customer needs to define opportunities for existing product lines.  Create product specifications that provide direction to R&D to help formulate new product ideas. Collaborate with R&D to ensure that products being developed are targeted to identified opportunities.
  • Ensure that products managed may be found by customers who are searching for products or applications and that web content is informative and aids customers in making purchase decisions.   Conduct outbound marketing activities that inform potential customers of how the products(s) can aid and improve their research.
  • Develop specification sheets, competitive matrices, sales support materials including customer facing presentations and customer, sales, and distributor training materials. Collaborate with Marketing Communications to launch, promote products. Provide direction to sales team on product sales strategies. Conduct sales training as necessary.
  • Conduct annual product line reviews as necessary that summarizes market conditions, sales performance, SWOT, BCG and competitor activity.  Actively work with marketing management to define possible strategies and recommend specific actions and metrics.  Conduct post 6 month launch reviews for key products.
  • Work with Operations to ensure consistent product availability and quality.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key customers and distributors, visit key customers attend trade shows and other customer events.
  • This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

 

 

Requirements

Education/Certification, Experience, and Competencies (state if required):

  • Requires a BA, BS degree; MS, PhD a big plus.
  • Typically requires a minimum of 2 years of career growth in a product marketing role or equivalent.
