Illumina reproductive and genomics solutions use next-generation sequencing (NGS) and advanced microarray technologies to produce fast, accurate genomic information in clinical research and diagnostics. Basic Function and Scope of the Position:

Illumina Reproductive & Genetic Health (RGH) is a division of Illumina which focuses on delivering powerful tools to scientists and clinicians.  Based out of our offices in Cambridgeshire, we are actively seeking a scientist to join the Product Development function and help create new genomics-based products for the reproductive and genetic health market. The successful candidate will work closely with Senior Scientists within the Assay Development Team to design and conduct experiments to develop new protocols and products. 

 

This exciting role would give the successful candidate the opportunity to work on number of core Illumina technologies including Next Generation Sequencing and Whole Genome Amplification technologies

 

Tasks and Responsibilities:

This role focuses on the development of novel products, workflows and kits that leverage Illumina’s core technologies into new applications. This is a hands-on role requiring the post holder to take direct responsibility for:

 

  • Experimental design (based on projects outlines given by Senior Scientists)
  • Independent execution of experiments in the laboratory
  • Data analysis
  • Presentation of results and conclusions to senior staff
  • Documentation of experimental plans and results within an ISO13485 certified Quality Management System
  • Effective collaboration with colleagues across different functional teams, sites and countries

 

 

Preferred Educational Background:                                   

  • Ph.D or equivalent in biochemistry, genomics, molecular biology or related field required.

 

Preferred Experiential Background:

  • Required:
    • Experience and understanding of molecular biology, genetics and genomics
    • Evidence of exceptional laboratory skills, analytical skills and attention to detail
    • First rate oral and written communication skills
    • Ability to build relationships and collaborate across varied functions

 

  • Desirable
    • Product development experience in a quality managed environment, ideally medical device
    • Project management experience
    • Experience with liquid handling instruments
