The Department of Pathology at Columbia University is recruiting a Postdoctoral Research Scientist to work in the lab of Dr. Andrew Yates. The successful candidate will be involved in a research project investigating the response of HIV- infected children to initiation and withdrawal of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (ART). Our group, together with that of Rob de Boer (Utrecht), forms the quantitative immunology arm of the EPIICAL consortium of virologists, statisticians and clinicians with expertise in pediatric HIV infection. Drawing on data from multiple clinical trials involving ART initiation and withdrawal in HIV-infected children, we will develop statistical and mechanistic (ODE) models to predict how an individual will respond to interruption of ART given his/her baseline immunologic and virological status.
This position requires strong quantitative skills. Applicants with a PhD in mathematics, biostatistics, engineering or physics are encouraged to apply. A familiarity with basic immunology and/or HIV biology is desirable but not essential as training will be provided. A commitment to interdisciplinary science and an enthusiasm and aptitude for communicating with experts outside your field is essential.
