Job Description

The Ronald M. Loeb Center for Alzheimer’s Disease, directed by Dr. Alison Goate, at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai is seeking a passionate individual to investigate the neuropathology and genetics of neurodegenerative tauopathies. We are using advanced genomic and computational approaches to identify novel drivers of disease pathogenesis. This NIH-funded project focuses on understanding the overlap between Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson’s disease, and other neurodegenerative diseases.  The candidate will join a highly productive research team that includes geneticists, computational biologists, cell biologists and physician-scientists at the Loeb Center. The successful candidate will be play an active role in deploying next-generation sequencing data (DNA and RNA) and correlating with novel endophenotypes to elucidate pathogenic drivers.

 

Responsibilities: 1. To assist in the design of genomics experiments, 2. To analyze publically available and novel genomic datasets, including quality control and variant identification and annotation, associated with neuropathological outcomes and etiology using existing computational resources in R and other programs, 3. To work towards development of independent scientific ideas and post-doctoral appropriate grants (e.g., K award, R03), with a long term goal of independent investigator status.

Requirements
  1. Experience with genetics and a recent doctoral degree (e.g,. PhD) in computational biology, computer science, genetics, epidemiology, biostatistics, bioinformatics or related field.  Alternatively an MD with relevant additional relevant experience
  2. Expertise in R and R/Bioconductor and a scripting language (e.g., perl/python) in a Unix environment
  3. An interest in working with a diverse group of scientists to advance our understanding of neurodegenerative diseases through a synergy of wet and dry lab approaches
