Job Description

GENERAL SUMMARY:

Ambry Genetics provides the opportunity for recent doctoral degree recipients to both enhance their research goals and obtain leading diagnostic industry experience at our campus in Aliso Viejo, CA.

This position is open for a highly motivated scientist interested in studying the interplay between genetic variation and cancer biology. This position requires a strong knowledge of genetics, molecular biology, and cell biology. It is expected that this position will result in publications in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. The postdoctoral fellow will gain valuable experience in a molecular diagnostics company and contribute to the understanding of functional significance of genetic variation.

This is a one-year program that can be renewed up to three years. It is a paid full time position with benefits. Expenses toward the project, laptop, computer equipment, and laboratory research supplies are covered by Ambry.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The postdoctoral fellow will be required to conduct research projects associated with variant assessment independently and collaboratively. He/she will be responsible for presenting data at internal group, department, and/or other company meetings, as well as various external meetings when appropriate. Each postdoc will be assigned a mentor at Ambry that will provide scientific advice and guidance. All Ambry postdocs are expected to publish results both internally and externally.

 

PROGRAM SPECIFICS:

Length: This is a one-year program that can be renewed up to three years. Each year needs confirmation from sponsor and the APP that trainee is making significant progress towards goals.

Hiring Process: Submit an application with listed requirements. Selected candidates will be contacted by the mentor(s) to schedule an initial phone interview. The second stage includes a full-day, on-site interview, during which the candidate gives a research seminar and meets their prospective mentor(s) and other scientists of the department. 

Requirements

1.   Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Sanger sequencing and/or NGS is preferred.
  • Strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals and proven ability to conduct independent research at a very high level.
  • Outstanding organizational, experimental design, and communication skills, with demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as collaboratively.
  • Must be proficient in DNA/RNA extraction and analysis. 

     

2.   Minimum certifications/educational level:

  •  Recent recipient of Ph.D. (<4 years) or defense scheduled in next 4 months in a relevant field of study.

3.   Minimum experience:

  •  Knowledge and experience with the following techniques: assay development, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture, cloning, fluorescent cell-based assays, fluorescence microscopy, high-content imaging, and data analysis.
