Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated, innovative and independent data scientist to join the MassGeneral Institute for Neurodegenerative Institute (MIND) Informatics lab located in Central Square in Cambridge, MA. The successful candidate will be working with an interdisciplinary team of researchers at the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center (MADRC) to develop innovative computational approaches, and to systematically integrate and analyze clinical (including electronic health records), genetic, epigenetic, and gene expression data to understand the heterogeneity presented in clinicopathologic outcomes in Alzheimer’s disease. The candidate will be expected to research and develop novel computational and statistical methods, work cooperatively with various members of the MADRC, publish actively and present results at conferences. This appointment is at the Department of Neurology, Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School with potential for a secondary appointment in the Department of Epidemiology, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. It is a one-year term appointment starting April 1, 2019 with the option to renew for a second-year conditional on satisfactory performance.

 

 

Requirements

Candidate must have received (or expect to receive soon) a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Genetics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field.

  • Skills in statistical and machine-learning data analytic methods
  • Highly proficient in R and/or Python 
  • Experience working with genetics and omics data
  • Knowledge of neuroscience is a plus
  • First (or co-first) author of one or more peer-reviewed scientific publications
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in teams
