Job Description

A Postdoctoral Research Fellow opening is immediately available in the Inova Schar Cancer Institute in Falls Church, Virginia to contribute to cancer biomarker research using advanced techniques in mass spectrometry and quantitative proteomics. The successful candidate will have full access to advanced state-of-the-art instrumentation for mass-spectrometry-based proteomics (2 Q-Exactive HFs, 2 Q-Exactives, and 1 Triple TOF 6600) that enable cutting-edge molecular profiling and translational cancer research. The projects are specifically aimed at development and application of high resolution mass spectrometric techniques for differential identification of cancer protein and phosphoprotein biomarkers in tissue biopsies, proximal fluids, and serum using stable isotope labeled and label-free quantitative proteomics, including the use of data-dependent and data-independent acquisition techniques. The projects will involve technical developments in mass spectrometry toward improved analytical precision and throughput for clinical sample assays using mass spectrometry. To qualify, candidates must have a Ph.D. in the biological or physical sciences. Candidates are further required to have a strong record of research accomplishments and publications, including presentation of scientific results at national meetings and their publication in peer-reviewed journals, an ability to work in a team environment as well as excellent oral and written communications skills in English. Required skills include demonstrated experience in conducting nanoflow liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, proteomic sample preparation and post-acquisition proteomic bioinformatics analysis. Previous work in molecular biology, cell biology, or biochemistry is highly desired.
