Job Description

Our team, led by Dr. Ramnik Xavier, aims to understand the pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) in order to accelerate its treatment. Within the Xavier Group, we use a combination of physiologically relevant cell-based assays, novel mouse models based on genetic variants identified in patients, patient samples, and computational analyses to understand disease pathophysiology. As part of our studies, we investigate the mechanisms of host-microbiome interactions in IBD based on pathways implicated both in the human host (through previous genetic association work) and in the microbiome (from recent functional screens).

We are seeking a postdoctoral associate in Computational Biology who will be responsible for computational method development to elucidate the cellular components and regulatory networks that interact dynamically in human health and disease.

The ideal candidate should be broadly conversant with bioinformatic techniques for genomic data analysis and will:
1. Collaborate with Computational Biologists within the group, and with Computational Biologists and Software Developers throughout the greater Broad community (MGH, HSPH, HMS, Dana-Farber).
2. Collaborate with experimental team members for validation of computational results.

Prospective applicants should have made significant contributions to their area of study, as evidenced by a strong publication record in high-impact journals.

- A Ph.D. in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biology, or a related field
- Proficiency in one or more statistical or scripting languages (Perl or Python) appropriate for scalable data analysis, with knowledge of R/S-plus/MATLAB and SQL essential
- Comfort and experience with programming for biological data analysis
- Familiarity with functional genetic and/or genomic data, as indicated by publication record
- Ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well
