A new lab at the Vaccine and Infectious Disease Research Division is recruiting a postdoctoral fellow to work on a project investigating the role of the microbiome on vaccine-induced immunity. Our goal is to learn how the gut microbial and immune systems communicate to shape HIV vaccine immune responses. We are interested in how the microbiome shapes immune responses to HIV vaccines and contributes to vaccine response heterogeneity.

The incumbent will work with the team to conduct correlates analyses with clinical and mouse microbiome and immunogenicity data; we will unravel mechanisms of immunity by perturbation of the immune system and the microbiome - the immune system via multiple adjuvanted immunization regimens and the microbiome by gut microbial reconstitution in germ free mice; and we will conduct metabolomics case-control analyses from select human and mouse samples.

The candidate must be responsible, organized, and self-motivated, and able to efficiently manage time and experiments. In addition, the candidate must be familiar with aerobic and anaerobic cultures and/or murine models.

To be considered, candidates should have:
- A PhD in molecular biology, immunology, or a related field. Preference will be given to candidates with extensive experience in microbiology and/or immunology
- The candidate must show initiative, the willingness to take up new skills and responsibilities, and be a team player
- Willingness to work with human cells, murine models, and biohazardous/infectious agents (BSL2+) under carefully controlled conditions
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a laboratory team
- Excellent attention to details.
