A Postdoctoral Research Fellow position is available in the Program in Immunology, Clinical Research Division at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, Seattle, WA. The successful applicant will join the lab of Dr. Anthony Rongvaux (http://research.fhcrc.org/rongvaux/en.html) to study the interactions between cell death and the immune response.
It is estimated that more than 1 million cells die every second in the human body. While the vast majority of those cells die in the context of the normal maintenance of tissue homeostasis, cell death can also be the consequence of an uncontrolled stress such as infection. Therefore, the immune system needs to distinguish the different types of cell death in order to ignore cells dying physiologically, or to mount an adequate response in the case of pathological cell death.
Using state of the art murine models and molecular immunology technologies, the postdoctoral fellow will study the mechanisms by which the immune system detects the presence of dying cells and how it responds to or ignores those dying cells. Those mechanisms will be studied in homeostatic conditions as well as in the context of diseases such as infections, cancer or autoimmunity.
Desired skills and experience:
- A recent (ideally less than 1 year) PhD degree in Immunology, Cellular & Molecular Biology or a closely related field.
- Strong knowledge in immunology, particularly innate immunity.
- Expertise in flow cytometry, primary cell isolation and culture, and molecular biology.
- Advanced training and experience with in vivo procedures, including murine colony management, genotyping, intravenous injections and in vivo infection or tumor models
The successful candidate will be a scientifically driven individual, with a track record of productive research demonstrated by at least one first author publication, with excellent communication skills and willing who enjoys working in a highly collaborative environment.
