As a Project Director in Wilmington, DE you'll play a pivotal role in channeling our scientific capabilities to make a positive impact on changing patients' lives. GMD (Global Medicines Development) drives late-stage development of our innovative pipeline, transforming exciting science into valued new medicines and ensuring patients around the world can access them.


Main Duties and Responsibilities 
As a Operations Director you'll lead global transformation programs on-time and on-budget, and in adherence with quality and compliance standards.  You will shape often high level risk program visions, ensuring that business requirements are effectively translated into solutions, and that program benefits are communicated and realized. You are accountable for program budgets and leads teams which support the delivery of programs, often managing supplier contracts, and ensures program transitions to business as usual services.  As a member of the MS&T Leaderships team, you're expected to provide OSD technical support and expertise as needed.

•Leverage standard tools of project management, project planning, budgets and lean methodologies
•Help MS&T define project resources, performance reviews and post implementation evaluations and reviews high-level deliverables across business area
•Provide overall direction, leadership and decision-making to program/project teams as required
•Establish and manage relationships with key senior/executive stakeholders within AZ to ensure understanding and commitment to project objectives, and development and refinement of project deliverables.
•Manage the strategic aspects of large projects. Prepare mitigation plans and reports risk issues
•Manage interdependencies between programs and ensure successful delivery and co-ordination of workstreams
•Oversee the development of strategic risk analysis and subsequent control plans for programs and actively use these to assess the effect of changes in terms of risks, costs, timescales and resources; involves other organizations/stakeholders when necessary
•Ensure engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures take place for all program activities
•Oversee the development and implementation of communication strategies for different programs
•Take ownership of the successful implementation of the projects as needed
•Responsible for budget and resource allocation
•Manage Steering Committee expectations in line with project requirements as required
•Ensure streamlined transition into business areas and ensure controlled hand-overs to users and business as usual processes
•Provide hands on Technical (OSD) expertise and support as needed to investigations, technology exploration, product robustness, etc. 
•Lead technical initiatives as required. 
Essential Requirements 

•MSc Chemical Engineering or Pharmaceutics
•Business Degree
•Significant experience in program/project management in a technical organization with a proven track record
•Demonstrate strong communication and relationship building skills with the ability to influence others to achieve objectives
•Experience of defining the business strategies and influencing the key stakeholders of the vision for the business area, especially in technical arena
•Proven technical capability, working with internal and external manufacturers.
•Evidence of leading and developing innovative technical and business solutions that have a major impact within the business area and organization
•Strong networking/consulting skills with good internal/external links
•Ability to interpret and communicate technical information into business language and in alignment with AZ business
•Managing, developing and leading a team of people in different locations
•Track record in delivering high risk technical program/projects and decision making
•Skills and experience managing and controlling budgets
•Ability to convince and manage negotiations across a complex group
