Job Description

The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's.

Works with the clinical operations nurse manager in a busy Women's Center & Specialty Oncology outpatient clinic. Supervises nurses. Plans and oversees nursing practice and activities ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to policies, procedures, standards and regulations. Utilizes the principles of leadership and the nursing process to achieve optimal care. Primary functions are to supervise, instruct and guide nurses and medical assistant personnel to provide high quality nursing services.

Job Duties

A. Leadership
- Under the Clinic Managers guidance assists in development of department/division goals and works to achieve these related to nursing.

- Works in collaboration with the staffing coordinator to assure appropriate staff is scheduled. Along with leadership communicates staffing needs.
- Functions as a clinical role model for staff incorporating organizational initiatives and adapting to changes in clinical care, research and patient safety
- Participates with the Clinic Manager, other supervisors and Clinical Nurse Specialist in the ongoing development of competencies, capabilities, technology and the resources needed to achieve high standards of efficiency and effectiveness. Approaches everything with the passion and desire to meet the highest standards.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

B. Patient Centered Care
- Effective at de-escalation and service recovery. Alerts nurse manager and/or patient advocate as needed.
- Assures a safe environment for clinical staff to care for patients, including provision of appropriate patient care equipment and assuring compliance with procedures.

C. Interdisciplinary Teamwork
- Ensures the nursing staff in the clinic is kept up to date with information from operational groups.
- Serves as a point person for nursing for all ancillary departments such as infusion and lab.

D. Evidence Based Care
- Monitors staff use of on line clinical documentation and other clinical support process.
- Fosters evidence based care in clinic processes by partnering with the CNS, helps develop clinic guidelines and education.
- Collaborates effectively with research staff and provides input/orientation as needed to support research activities that happen in the clinic.

E. Quality Improvement
- Designs, conducts, analyzes and takes appropriate action on internal quality assurance audits such as, crash cart checks, exam room supply and cleanliness, procedure check list, staff performance, documentation etc.
- Is an active participant and/or supporter of SCCA performance improvement projects. Does not accept the status quo. Encourages staff to continually improve the care we provide.
- Fosters atmosphere of regulatory compliance, collaboration, data driven decisions and staff participation in continuous improvement.

COMMUNICATION
- Communicates in a professional tone and with respect in interactions with patients, colleagues and providers.
- Able to give feedback directly to colleagues and providers in a timely manner. Does not use email or voicemail to give feedback. If feedback not well received, notifies manager or supervisor.
- Communicates concerns or problems to manager or supervisor in professional and timely manner.

HIPPA - Patient Privacy
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.

HIPPA - Employee Privacy
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of, and maintains confidentiality of employee information and SCCA strategic plans and initiatives, financial information or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize employee rights or organization's operations. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary employee and organization information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.

Required:
- Current Washington State License as Registered Nurse
- Bachelors in Science, in Nursing (or currently enrolled in BSN program) required
- Health Care Field and specialty training/certification in Oncology preferred, will consider previous experience
- 2-3 years leadership experience preferred. Previous Oncology and/or Quality Assurance experience preferred
- Outpatient experience preferred
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Proven project leadership skills and committee experience

Preferred:
- Ability to work under pressure related to work/time deadlines
- Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with a variety of staff and practitioners and provide feedback on staff performance
- Ability to be flexible and lead others toward clinic goals
- Detail oriented and able to collect and display audit data
- Competent in basic computer skills
