The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, located in Seattle, Washington, is part of a dynamic collaboration among three organizations known nationally and internationally for their patient care and research: Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, University of Washington, and Seattle Children's. We are actively recruiting an individual who is committed to excellent patient care and can make decisions using discipline, good judgment, and input gathered from others. This individual will be an effective nursing leader who advances nursing practice, can communicate effectively, and will adapt to our dynamic and advancing organization. The Nurse Manager of the General Oncology and Supportive Care Clinics will need to collaborate in a truthful, direct, and respectful manner and remain flexible as our organization continues to improve and grow the oncology care we provide to patients and families.

This management position collaborates with medical leaders, peers, departments and colleagues at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance as well as our partner institutions to assure the provision of high quality, patient and family-centered care in an environment that facilitates the conduct of clinical research. Work situations range from clinical to managerial and require independent decision-making, analysis, policy and program development, problem and issue resolution and leadership skills. The Nurse Manager is responsible for planning, directing and controlling the services and daily operations of their department/clinic(s). The manager oversees nurses and additional members of the healthcare team in order to provide high quality nursing services to our patients.

Clinical Practice:
- With medical staff leaders, is responsible for the organizational, management, operational and administrative activities of the clinic(s).
- Provides an environment to support comprehensive and collaborative management of patients, including patient satisfaction and advocacy.
- Provides for Registered Nurse and assistive personnel supervision at the appropriate depth and scope for the patient/population needs.
- Provides teaching, coaching and consultation on clinical issues for professional staff.
- Develops and implements with staff a nursing quality assurance program in accordance with nursing practice standards and integrates findings into patient care quality assurance program(s).
- Assures a safe environment for clinical staff to care for patients, including provision of appropriate patient care equipment and assuring compliance with procedures.
- Ensure department is appropriately staffed and supervised. This includes: hiring, performance evaluations, ensuring training and development, handling disciplinary action, layoff and termination issues.
- Facilitates collaborative and effective working relationships with all members of the healthcare team to ensure high quality of care.
- Promotes opportunities for development in staff, as appropriate.
- Address professional, legal and ethical issues appropriately in collaboration with Human Resources. Demonstrates awareness and sensitivity to patient and family rights as identified within SCCA.

Leadership:
- Innovative leadership approach providing a nurse leader's perspective on the clinic's management team.
- In collaboration with clinic management team, encourages innovative approaches to patient care by embracing our culture of continuous process improvement.
- Provides leadership in teambuilding by creating a climate in which the care teams want to do their best.
- Support and implement targeted customer service, financial, and quality goals consistent with SCCA's strategic plan.
- Works collaboratively with marketing and/or network efforts in sharing program information, participating in planned activities, and serving as a nursing resource to affiliates/network partners.
- Develops a regular method of communication with providers to cascade information on organizational initiatives, gain input regarding specific issues, and resolve concerns or problems.
- Represents the clinics (and SCCA) at appropriate meetings both within SCCA, our affiliates and the broader community.
- Leverage and respect differences in culture, backgrounds, and expertise among colleagues to promote a safe and enriching working environment

Financial Management:
- Prepares and continually monitors the operating budget, operational productivity, and financial reports.
- Assists with the strategic planning and direction of the department and continually evaluates the impact of changes that will affect the clinical staff and budget.
- Analyzes financial impact of internal changes and implements clinically sound cost-efficiencies.

Customer Service:
- Collaborate with colleagues: cooperation and availability are expected

Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial, or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary patient identifiable information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.

HIPPA - Employee Privacy
Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of, and maintains confidentiality of employee information and SCCA strategic plans and initiatives, financial information or other sensitive materials and information in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize employee rights or organization's operations. Accesses and uses the minimum necessary employee and organization information to perform job responsibilities and duties and only for authorized purposes.

- Current Washington State Registered Nurse license
- A master's degree in healthcare or business or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Progressive responsible administrative experience
- Prior experience in management of staff productivity and development of staffing guidelines
- Prior experience in expense management
- Ability to communicate effectively, in a truthful, direct, and respectful manner, with colleagues and patients
- Experience with proven quality and performance improvement methodologies
- Demonstrated leadership skills
- Strong Human Resource skills
- Proficiency in use of standard office computer software programs, equipment and clinical information systems.

Preferred
- Oncology experience
- Specialty certification in field
