Job Description

The role of the Instrument New Product Introduction Engineer is to plan, execute, and complete the introduction of new products into the sustaining supply chain according to strict deadlines and within budget. The individual will work directly for the Executive Director of Product Transfer and work both independently and within team environments across multiple areas of our engineering and manufacturing environment. The candidate must have very strong communication and organizational skills and be able to translate the specific operational details of engineering CAD designs from Engineering through our internal systems to the supply chain supporting project execution.



  • Manage New Product Introduction activities from inception to successful conclusion
    • Develop new product introduction plans and execute to them
    • Drive Design for Manufacturability (DFX) for new products
  • Serve as a member of a cross-functional core team; leading the Operations cross-functional team, including manufacturing, contract manufacturers, and suppliers to execute the project
    • Engage the resources and participants needed to achieve project goals
  • Coordination of engineering documentation in support of project deadlines and requirements
  • Identify risks to supply chain execution
  • Manage pre-production builds, and non-released product deliverables from manufacturing
  • Structure and release new product BOMs and engineering changes in SAP
  • Manage supplier ECO release and implementation
  • Chair manufacturing readiness reviews for NPI products
  • Provide knowledge-based sustaining engineering support
  • Review of Instrumentation drawings and preparation of material requisitions
  • Review of required test protocols and equipment to ensure appropriate and comprehensive coverage
  • Coordination with manufacturing regarding testing equipment and final documentation for handover of project
  • BS in BME, EE, IE, ME, or related discipline
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in commercial mechanical products
  • Microsoft Office, SAP, and related project management tools
  • Comfortable with all phases of the product development lifecycle including design, implementation, debug, verification, qualification, and transfer to Manufacturing
  • Proficiency using CAD to design and document mechanisms; SolidWorks and/or ProE required
  • Hands-on engineering with the proven ability to work well in a team environment
  • Strength in design analysis
  • Strong understanding of component selection criteria, and design for reliability and manufacturability
  • Familiarity with small part assembly and manufacture
  • Proficient at process development and creation of assembly instructions
  • Experience with designing hardware products in an FDA or other regulated industry or for mission critical applications is desired; comfort with concepts of design input, design output, traceability, and risk analysis
  • Ability to establish and maintain a professional rapport with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
  • Leadership and communications in working within and across organizations
  • Ability to gain respect and cooperation of highly educated subject matter experts
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate effectively (written, oral) across all levels and organizations
